I look at the sigh Let's talk about you were recently had a baby. Yes. How old is your baby?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[0:50] About seven weeks Wow
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[0:53] Brand-new and so I would love to find out your brand new
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[0:58] But so old to me Yeah She's ten pounds. Wow, that's awesome. How big was she when she was born? six And a half six ten. It was it's incredible like amazing. She was tiny Yeah, I mean she was the perfect size for me to come out. Yeah. Yeah, I'm not I'm not I'm definitely not I know she's gonna be very petite But I just think I just saw what I just started modeling yet. No, I'm gonna wait until she's two. Oh sure
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[1:32] Yeah, okay fair enough Two is gonna seem so old. Oh my god. I know what about I mean, okay I would love to talk about your pregnancy and and Find out how it was for you. Were you expecting to have a baby? No, no accidental. Yeah Accidental is that okay?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[1:52] There was air quotes. Yeah. Oh, yeah, you can't you can't see you can't hear air quotes, right? You can't hear That was me Sounding air quotes. Yeah. No, it was I mean, it's sorry I certainly knew we knew that we wanted to be together and make a baby, but you know sometimes things happen and It's the biggest blessing in the world and we were so excited
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[2:18] Did when how did you find out?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[2:21] test Because oh cuz I was late. Oh, you're right. I'm never late. This is so well, you're always right on time Yeah, it seems like you it's it's really like it's really Stress-free when you know to expect. I mean, I like to be in control of things and I was like Really excited when I was late, so I took a test and it was just you know You you you imagine these moments like being proposed to and marrying somebody walking down the aisle or Having your baby and taking a pregnancy test you imagine all these things and when they really happen. It's just You can't believe it's happening to you. I know you've imagined it your whole life. We're excited to take it. Oh, yeah
[3:07] You're pumped. Oh, yeah. I mean, I was really tired that night, but I was really
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[3:12] Oh, yeah, it was like boom I'm pregnant totally and Was Tommy there? No. Oh, I didn't know you were taking it. No. Oh
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[3:21] Yeah Yeah, I I was the review. Why because we weren't together He's I was working and so I yeah, I got to tell him So, you know, I think it's it's really fun in that respect because usually the man proposes to you What does the woman get to do? How does the woman get to reveal something and There's all these new ways of revealing pregnancy and also revealing genders and all that stuff, but It was it was just like There's a really fun thing to be able to it's a tear I can't keep secrets and so that was the most impossible week of my life Isn't it so I didn't tell my husband for a few days either after after I found out But I forgot about how exciting that time is when you know, yeah
[4:11] Change your both of your life. Yeah something think the most important secret you ever you'll ever have Yeah, besides like murdering somebody right and better. I mean better case, right?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[4:23] Way better. How did you tell him? I just
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[4:27] just I Wrote a little poem Very sweet and I was and I just said it to him Said the poem. Mm-hmm. I just read it out loud and didn't you know immediately? No, you didn't figure it out It was a little abstract but you know, I just I had so much time to think about how and it was driving me crazy because I the more time I had the more ideas I'd have and It's just I know what men go through. Well men, you know what people go through it's too traditional to propose to their their partners and God I was stressful. Did you have other thoughts on how you were gonna do it? I don't remember anymore, but I know I have you went through a lot. Oh, yeah I mean at one point I was like maybe I'll just send him a picture of it, but I didn't want I
[5:34] I I didn't want to take anything away from the experience I wanted to add to the experience and I felt like I would have been taking away The moment that we could have shared right moment. He found out You know cuz you don't get many chances in life to have these kinds of moments. I'm kind of curious what the poem was I'll stay curious. Top secret. Stay curious. I'll stay curious, but I just want to see I need you would have been able to figure it out. Well now it's too late because I know
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[6:09] I'm not super perceptive like that. So I feel like I would have missed it too, especially wasn't expecting it at all
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[6:15] You're a man. No kidding. Yeah, I'm totally not a man
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[6:20] So then pregnancy did I mean had you thought about pregnancy? Did you do it? Yeah, I was terrified
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[6:27] Yeah, I was working oh man, whoo, that's rough when you can't tell people on a show or on a movie And I just kept filling out I mean my um Thing that nobody told me it there a lot of things that nobody told me like of course you I'm sure you're like Whoa, this happens My boobs grew right away. So I was I was oh no, you need a girdle He was really uncomfortable
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[6:54] You were oh you were
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[6:56] Physically because I was wearing all this tight stuff and it wasn't like closing And I couldn't tell people but um, but but I was always scared of pregnancy So I was afraid of getting sick because I have this big big fear of throwing up So cuz you're a control freak. I'm a control freak Yeah, and I have OCD so the throwing up fear is very common with people with OCD It's also that feeling before you throw up. It's the worst but nausea and oh just and did you get sick? Threw up once actually I did get very nauseous for like a good two to three weeks, which is not a very long time No, that's not bad, but I was miserable. I was miserable was throwing up like acting on stage
[7:40] No relation sort of there is a there is a
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[7:45] Correlation there. I mean you had to give up control that that thing for both of them. Yeah Well, you said you had OCD Were you diagnosed with OCD? Yeah, when how old were you? I was 19, but I had all my life How did what led you to get a diagnosis?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[8:04] um, oh I had a panic attack and I'd never had one before I was driving to work and work we shot big love up in like Valencia where that six flies is yeah, and I was driving to work and I just had a panic attack and I was I Was beside myself I didn't know what was happening. I called my mom She talked me down and I drove to work and from that day on I started I got a doctor I saw a neurosurgeon or a neurologist. He took an MRI I thought I was you know, because I'd had serious a lot of headaches that week anyway, and so I I Like to get MRIs And then I like vanilla ice cream Yeah, yeah, yeah, but they all leave it the same place
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[8:55] You like to get MRIs because you like to make sure you're not dying of a cancer something all the time Is that part of your anxiety is that go with OCD? health anxiety Hmm How do because OCD affects people in different ways. How does it affect you? I did a lot
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[9:15] I had a lot of rituals I mean like it would take me a really long time to put my clothes away and then in the drawers and It's all about organization and if it doesn't feel right you have to You have to keep moving until it feels right to move things around till they feel right I think with numbers which is very common with the volume level in the car. They had to be certain numbers. I Don't even remember the numbers anymore because I abandoned all those rituals through
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[9:46] It couldn't be on a certain number it had to be on a certain number
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[9:48] It had to be on a certain number and it also couldn't be on a certain number. So it depends on the day And you have this your whole life. Yeah stepping on certain tiles in the kitchen when I was younger I never showed my parents afraid I was gonna hurt somebody Even though I didn't rationally want to hurt anybody I was afraid I was gonna lose control of my body which doesn't happen But when you're young and you don't know what OCD is you Crazy, it's horrifying. It's a horrible
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[10:20] Was it really like refreshing to be like, oh I have OCD. Yes when I was 19
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[10:25] It was one of the best moments of my life. I read this No, you know the thing is about OCD, I just want to like talk about it always I
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[10:42] Think that's my next thing is how does it affect parenthood? But it it's Most people are like, oh my god I hope nobody ever finds out that I have anxiety or depression or OCD and because of that the stigma around mental health is is really makes it hard for people to Admit or find out that they have diagnosis and then they treat them It's like if somebody doesn't have a leg then you're like, oh, yeah, let me help you with your Stuff, but if somebody has mental health Handicap or issue then it's we'd like we get weirded out and back away from that. Yeah, it's it's a it's a
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[11:18] people are protecting the stigma by not Being open about it and being honest about it. And the truth is I can function I function Really? Well, you do so much stuff. I know and I'm Social I'm I'm not afraid to do very many things
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[11:35] I mean I don't but I almost like I like I want to be no CD like I'm a slob I just throw my stuff in the closet. I know I don't but I'm just saying parts of it. So I'm like, hmm
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[11:44] They're they can be helpful. I think I think part of it is actually good in terms of acting I think I use some of my anxiety and some of my OCD tendencies certainly
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[11:57] You know, but you don't get to know that everything when you're acting you're you're a moving part. Yeah, that's true
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[12:04] So is that sometimes it's not about controlling everything though. It's about controlling certain things and Sometimes I'm not even aware that I'm I'm doing something that I'm behaving in an OCD way Has it do you feel like since you've had your daughter has it been more challenging to control? Like certain impulses or like no, it's funny. I started cognitive behavioral therapy again Because you don't have to do it all the time it's like you you kind of check in with yourself and see how well you're doing and how where you are of your OCD and your tendencies and how it's affecting other people and and in your life and I checked in because I was done working and
[12:48] Pregnant and you know felt just really wanted to figure out what I could do to prevent certain Behaviors that I don't want to pass down to my daughter So I've been going since October and it's been really great. I'm like my OCD is pretty low right now and I think it also has to do with the fact that there are real things going on I have real stuff to do I have to wake up at certain times I have my child to take care of right I have You know my husband and my mom and and people around me to you know and then to and Finn yeah, then to Connect with and communicate with in a healthy way, and it's just I Pregnancy this is the thing I thought I was gonna fall apart being pregnant and postpartum very very scared about postpartum depression
[13:39] My whole life yeah, and I found it during pregnancy my hormones worked for me Sometimes they work against you sometimes you feel sick and out of control and everybody has a different story for with pregnancy I was I Was really good my whatever the hormones were doing I was really coasting And I felt pretty great after the first couple months I felt really incredible and like I had a hold on a lot of things I felt really healthy and after had the baby. I felt really healthy when your first trimester
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[14:13] You said you threw up one time. Mm-hmm Was that cuz you didn't let yourself throw up. No didn't feel like you had to I didn't have to throw up
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[14:21] It was just the nausea. Yeah, and I would just eat Mata and dip it in cream cheese, and I know that's
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[14:30] Love Passover. I love Passover food. You should come one time to us. I thank you. I will Sorry that you know, I'll be sorry. That's our centers are kind of we need a little what's that Apple stuff that you make?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[14:41] I roast it. Yeah, it's so good. It's the bomb and you just dip your Mata in it. No, it's really good
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[14:48] So then You feel good during
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[14:53] Pregnancy everything I'm looking back even my delivery. I Had all these fears everything worked out so well, I Can't believe that I put I projected so much
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[15:06] But I think you're not the only one every I mean most people have tremendous fear about pregnancy childbirth
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[15:13] Yeah, cuz you're out of control of your body yeah, there's yeah, and also there is so much fear in society about it You never like somebody America. Yeah, like that's in Europe. I feel like oh They're they don't care. They're so much more laid-back having a good time It's much more. Yeah, there's it's like much more like a Celebration and this journey and it's like that's the focus then here I think I told you I remember saying to you I opened what to expect when you're expecting, right? Isn't that the general text right and I was like I am read Sentence and I like closing gave it away and you said don't give it away. It is good for something You can use it as a high chair
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[15:54] Your kids not quite tall enough to sit at the table. It's so fear-based There's so much and there are people who actually that book is really good for who need to know every possible thing
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[16:04] That can go wrong and I think that's good for anybody I've noticed that some things are good and and then the rest, you know You just you can't you don't know who your kids gonna be You don't know how things are gonna go for you I the more I talked to the moms in my life my friends I grew up with the especially we have a group chat the better I feel because I actually every time something happens that is alarming. I check in with them, right and the support That we give each other is so it's so It's so important for me and information is so important for me and like when we have a question Tommy Google something and and or I ask my mom is this normal because my mom of course is coming from a really calm
[16:49] Place and she's like don't worry. Don't worry, but and I am a worrier and I have to understand what's happening at all times and You know, that's not it's not great. It's not great for me. It's not great for him It's not great for our daughter but I Mean and that's what those these books have have provided for me. It's like when I need to know something I can It's not necessary. Yeah, like like Michelle Hacocca's. Oh, yeah 411 it's great and and and we just got a sleep sleep poop It's sleep poop. It's got going. Yes got going and it's They're great because then I can check something but I don't need to go cover to cover
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[17:31] I actually really enjoyed Dr. Hacocca's book reading it from beginning to end because she has such a nice way of writing What book is that? Expecting 411. It's I think it's meant to be more reference-based But or you know while you're going through something right read on that paragraph But she actually writes things in such a in such a pleasant way that even scary things don't sound that scary
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[17:53] That's so great. I know that's when I called Dr. Cohen's office the other day about something they're like, that's pretty normal and honestly, I wouldn't worry about it she seems to be doing really well and that's all I needed to hear but There's just so much information out there and it's it's great, but it's sometimes not I Mean the information I would rather have the information coming from people now That I'm actually speaking to that are going through it, right? Mm-hmm
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[18:22] Yeah, when we did our breastfeeding with a breastfeeding awareness family festival that used to travel around called boobie palooza part of our thing was we would take people who are successfully breastfeeding and Connecting with people who are about to have a baby who want a breastfeed and the feedback we got from that people they
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[18:39] Stayed friends for years. Oh my god. It's such a big deal breastfeeding. Yeah, so Stressful and it's frustrating and even if it's working Perfectly it's stressful. Yeah, you're you're tied. You're you're weighed weighed down physically and emotionally and You can't really leave the house without Providing Something, you know a little extra you you can't leave your baby for too long. You it's just You can't travel without extra garments It's a lot. It's a lie. I did not know What now? Yeah, no, okay neither. I did work one day a couple weeks ago and I Was too much it was a really hard. I was like I it's been three hours She's still sleeping. So I'm gonna try to wait till five. Did you take her with you? Yeah
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[19:41] Yeah, cuz you're the your breakfast lunch and dinner and every and snacks in your craft services Well, I want to go just a little back because when you were pregnant you you were working a job You couldn't tell people right away What how long did that go into your pregnancy? Oh, I was done week 12. Okay, that's a good time I'm gonna we already you're not really showing. No, I didn't show till 20 weeks and then did you Continue to work. Mm-hmm. I was done. So you took 20 weeks off until the end. No, I did work in January
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[20:13] I played a Pregnant woman. Okay, so it was great Man, I had never been treated so well in my life. Really? That's I was treated like a queen. I I Used to look young. I think I'm I still kind of could pass. I think you're looking maybe thanks I mean, I you know, it's changing but people Definitely take advantage of me on sets. Like I'm really nice and I never put it like I never put up a fight for anything I'm super passive and You know, you'll never get any gripes from me and people take advantage of that very easily and so I'll I End up getting pretty resentful. But um, and then passive aggressive sometimes Usually it's just resentful and this movie. They treated me like they treated me like I was I
[21:03] was a queen and They were like We're gonna do this scene. We don't really need you for this Like no, I can I can stay I'll do off-camera, of course, I'll do off-camera, but they're like really though Please go get some rest And Me all the time they'd make sure I was cozy and it just not like that. Usually, you know, I'm I'm young. I'm I'm nice Amanda's cool. She'll be cool. She'll be cool. But now it was like Can't what can we get you?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[21:37] I mean cuz I have a lot of patients who act and it's not always like that
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[21:41] Oh my god, sometimes I just pretend like nothing's out, you know, that is as usual because pregnancy is a It's a beast and I'm and my pregnancy was was pretty great and it was still at times excruciating
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[21:55] Painful like the symptoms of pregnancy. Would you get pain? No, I had back labor too
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[22:00] So that was I got that epidural like we need to talk about that in a second
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[22:04] What what how did you feel growing
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[22:08] It was a slow growth it was just it was a very slow process Aren't you happy when you're finally showing I finally had a belly. What is this gas? And I kept sending pictures to my mom. She's like still gas Finally I had a bump I was so excited
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[22:28] All 20 weeks. Yeah, do you have pictures all the way through? Yeah sure do do you string them together? No
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[22:34] I want to do that. Can I string them together for you? Yeah, actually, I think yeah, I probably have enough. I Erased a lot of them because I just took so many Yeah, I mean I didn't think I don't I mean taking a lot of pictures super excited about though. You were happy to grow Yeah, I was really happy. Do you know how much weight you gained? I gained 35. Oh my god
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[22:55] Yeah, that's I mean that's normal, right? It's on the outside. It's average It's at the top of average, but you're small. So it was a lot putting
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[23:05] Yeah
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[23:07] Putting 35 on a small frame is different than putting 35 on a big frame. Yeah, that's true
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[23:12] I mean it's almost no wonder you had back pain. Oh so much so much. Oh my god. Oh, I couldn't even I Had this lay on my side at all times and I think that's partly why I had that I mean it could partly be the carpal tunnel stuff because I Was I had to be on my side all the time no matter what?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[23:33] Even what you had to be for comfort or because medical comfort Oh, did what about semi reclining like putting your back up?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[25:07] Didn't help you feeling very bad for you that you didn't meet dr. Berlin during your I'm sort of feeling bad I want to go back in time and oh my god Oh, it was so bad. I can't even that last month was We did everything we needed to do to get that baby out because Up until like I see Susan Minnick for acupuncture who just is a blessing and Two weeks before my due date. She I she started doing some induction points and I did everything the books tell you to do in order to get to go into labor. Were you late at that point? No, she just oh two weeks before I just didn't want to go over And I know people usually say you're gonna be late for your your first baby is gonna be late. Was yours late four days
[25:56] Okay, that's not bad. No, I was no my husband's gonna have to leave for work. So I was like starting to get stressed So he he had to leave for when she was ten days old for like two weeks He must have been I was like girl you got to come out Oh
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[26:14] Like athletes hockey players that get off. Yeah two days for my turn, you know
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[26:19] Oh, yeah, just to be home and then oh that is not no way to live. That's why I don't play No, I know I have a friend too that she her husband's in the military And so she to schedule a c-section and I think her husband left the next day for his deployment for like six months
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[26:35] I have a lot of people who do that actually not a lot, but a good number I mean I could think in my mind For Forces for sport professional sports and also for entertainment They just got a schedule and go it's crazy either inductions or cesarean having a baby. I mean
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[26:59] For me it was it's a three-person job Mm-hmm, you know, it's the two of us and our daughter and if we lost one of it's like a tripod you can't I couldn't imagine Losing him Yeah, the day later or whatever. I just even now it's still hard We're thinking about work in the summer and it's just how did you prepare for birth? How did I prepare? I swam every day and I just prepared I tried to prepare my body as much as I could and I tried to stay as fit as I could be
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[27:33] Yeah, were you during the pregnancy excited about birth?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[27:37] Fearful that was really fearful until I Met with Beth Kelly the nurse at Cedars. Uh-huh. She did a home birthing class and I was after that home birthing class. I
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[27:49] Thought what is a home? It's just where she comes to the house. Oh, yeah. She did a birthing class at your home
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[27:55] Yeah, not for a home birth. No. Oh, sorry. Yeah. No, I am I am Definitely not suitable for a home birth Too many fears but she Four hours she was there and as soon as she left I was like, whoa, this is gonna be really cool And ever since then I was excited about it really excited even though the hospital I was so excited I got the epidural. I labored at home for 10 hours 11 hours Just the two of you three of you the two of us for like eight hours Then the doula came over and then my mom came over and so I just labeled their emotions around your birth
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[28:32] What did you have emotions around your mom? Yeah, I mean as much as she
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[28:38] Yeah Did she cry? Did she cry? I don't think she cried. Maybe a little bit maybe by herself. She cried. She is So in love you can tell like she is wonderful. Is it her first grandchild? Mm-hmm. Yeah, what made you go to the hospital? I was like this is I need an epidural. That was intense. It was on your back too That's the worst I was crawling on all fours between contractions between Contractions. Wow, it was so bad And then during because I knew if I sat down the contractions would stop or they would slow down You don't want them to know because Hakaka said when there's three minutes apart three minutes apart that we should head to the hospital
[29:21] if I want an epidural and I was like it was three minutes apart and once there were three minutes apart I knew that if I sat down they would become five minutes apart again, right? What is that? Didn't know that either. So I had to I couldn't sit down and lay down which helped me on my side so I had to just crawl around and stand back up during the contractions and these like it was it was a really it was really quiet and really beautiful and really nice and it was our only like Cloudy day and finally around 1130. I was like I need an epidural Now that's at 1130 in the afternoon. Yeah, I've been laboring since one in the morning Yeah, did it wake you up out of your sleep? Yeah, it always does it always Braxton Hicks always woke me up
[30:05] Okay, but then this time it was different this time. I was like nothing. This is not labor And cuz it was too early. It was a day early. It was two days before I was due and I was just thinking Oh, so your acupuncture worked and I had spicy Indian food that night Works Among so many other things. I mean I was bobbing in the pool that afternoon before anyway, that's a busy day It was an incredible day. We were sitting out in the Sun. We took a picture of how big I was I was ready to go I was really really ready and Susan had done my acupuncture the day before so I Got in the car. I was the worst car out of my life And you can't
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[30:47] That's right down you can't even that time I had Chinese food and Mexican food together
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[30:51] They were both a little older than they should know. No, that's not the same. I did wake up in the morning having contractions
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[30:56] Three minutes apart lasting about a minute. You don't know I called my doula. That's the closest I can probably ever come
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[31:02] They were fighting the Chinese in the Mexican. Okay, so 1130 at least traffic's not insane. Traffic was incredible. Thank God So weird, it was so weird. I was like, this is fine. I was so excited And we get to the hospital and I'm so excited and we get the epidural and it doesn't hurt and I'm again so excited Because I I beat the fear I got the epidural and right and the pain started going away and I was so excited and then They broke my water and all this fun stuff was happening And then they tell you how many centimeters you were or how dilated you were when you got there four Okay, and because you're afraid of the upper drill did you ever think about not getting it?
[31:41] Yeah, I was like, what would it be like if I didn't get it right and A lot of people do it. My best friend did it. She was she's superwoman though and Another friend of mine who is superwoman was like get the epidural like why wouldn't you and now I that's I agree with Her why won't you but people have back labor. So I mean, it's
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[32:04] Like out of normal labor is a lot different. Oh my god. It's like you're having it's like your baby's coming home
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[32:10] It's like your baby's coming from your spine Wait, can I ask a question about back labor that is it always speak is back labor boys because they're posterior
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[32:20] Five times None of her babies were posterior and she is back later every time It's just her anatomy most common cause of back labor is the baby's skull is against your spine So every time you have a contraction forces that Base of your spine like all the way back and you feel like you're gonna break in half Yeah, and and so like Anytime I always tell people you're suffering in childbirth. You get an epidural no matter what but it's kind of yeah interesting because if you had more normal contractions, right and They're intense, but you don't feel like you're breaking in half you start to make these natural drugs and dwarfins and You start to feel kind of high and we just filmed a documentary where I was her doula and ours doing body work with
[33:09] her and she's in this tiny apartment Downtown and who is this? It's just a woman who came through the office with her husband he's a filmmaker and they documented their entire pregnancy and everything that they did during pregnancy and Like he filmed the birthday cameras everywhere just but no people like he would go set them from time to time and We get to that moment that almost everybody gets to where there's a big Dose of fear like I don't think I can do this I don't you know, she looked me right in the face She's like, I don't think I can do this and I explained to her about why you make all this adrenaline And it makes you feel fearful and your body wants you to prove that you're not in danger
[33:53] And then the adrenaline goes away and then it's uninhibited Because adrenaline inhibits labor and I don't know maybe an hour and a half later She had no fear all those endorphins kicked in the oxytocin kicked in She was high as a kite and she's tells these crazy funny stories and she says I think I'm so high right now And you see it. I'm like so glad they caught it except for Part of me was wondering how the balding spot looks from all four angles But other than that, I was so happy they caught it and I can't wait to see this footage of her Because you can see like what it could be like and I may not be like that for everybody If you're in pain and suffering and you don't want to take it anymore, of course you get an epidural
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[34:37] That's what's bizarre too. It's so different for
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[34:40] Everyone totally and every time right one person can like be screaming for an epidural one time and just Wait it out and see what happens and end up in that high
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[34:50] Ecstatic state and the truth is every our bodies are made to do this. So right there's pain, but it's not pain That's gonna kill you It's just that we have the tools to keep it from getting
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[35:06] We shouldn't suffer. Yeah suffer like why would anybody suffer if you don't have to endure the pain. That's a different story What do people claim on Everest sure that's really? Intense physically challenging and painful, but they have a Challenge that they want to overcome and I think nature gives you that challenge I think there are benefits to that challenge why nature does it that way But you know then when things go out of the ordinary, especially It's I'm like so in love with the fact that we have ways to just shut that off Yes, let you enjoy your labor and take a nap
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[35:41] Pushing is the thing telling about pushing
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[35:45] I pushed for half hour. Oh, that's amazing. No first baby. I know could you feel what was going on? Did they turn down the epidural a bit?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[35:53] It wasn't I didn't I never put it up. It was wasn't that strong than the normal dose Which I felt was almost too much because I couldn't feel any contractions, but boy I could feel the pressure and I just I you know, I have pretty strong ab muscles, even though they were I
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[36:13] Stretched out. Oh, they separated too, but I just feel like it was
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[36:17] You know, I it it I was they kept telling me I was pushing like it was my second kid and I felt Really empowered by that But you know, she's a great coach. Oh my god. She really it was wonderful. It was just a really nice quiet Quiet Time moment it was I mean I was scared at one point because I did get nauseous and I did throw up and I was told that that is something that happens And I don't like throwing up. So I was midway through pushing. I was like I I'm scared and And of course Michelle was like you gotta throw up
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[37:01] She's also practical. Yeah, and
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[37:04] It was of course, you're right you can't if you feel nauseous and you sick you can't do your best and you just got It kind of right. You you have to push a human out of it It's a it's a job. I remember the one one of the nurses said to me Rest up. You're gonna need it. You need the energy later. You need to take a nap because I was so excited I couldn't take a nap. I
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[37:27] Was I mean I was at a birth just recently We talked about on the podcast but she couldn't relax because she was too excited it was a home birth and she's so giddy
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[37:38] Cuz you're gonna meet your child
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[37:40] But it was like we just there is she needs to settle down and just get into later You know what I mean? She was like in sort of out sort of right and we put on
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[37:47] Allie Wong did you oh my god. Have you seen I don't know. Oh, you got a Hilarious it's a network the comedian and she has a Netflix special called baby Cobra and she's super pregnant and she's Hysterical
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[38:05] Newish like 30 minutes later. She was in transition because we're all laughing so hard Everybody some laughter no joke. I mean she was we were laughing so hard. In fact, there was a point where There was a point where she just all she had transitioned from nothing and She was having this giant surge go through and I was squeezing her hips behind her and her husband was in front of her coach like looking at her and holding her and he and I were like face-to-face and Allie's in the background talking about the difference between Sleeping with Jewish men and sleeping with Asian men and they're Asian and he and I were face-to-face Dying trying to hold it in because she was in the middle of this monster surge and when she finally finished we were you know
[38:52] The people say rolling on the floor laughing. We were rolling on the floor laughing. Oh my god I had to shut it off because she was like that kind of energy is There's nothing beats that especially during labor. Yeah, and it's cuz it really helps get she didn't have fear she's a giddiness, but I now I recommend to everybody because like If your mind is laughing your body knows you're not being chased by a tiger And if you don't feel afraid the energy rushing through you is much more tolerable than if you're afraid of it
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[39:22] Oh my god, that is so right. Hmm Comedy for birth. So you got the epidural. You got to take a nap. Yeah, and then you woke up from I woke up it was you know, there's some plateau action, right? You know, she was I just it was just dark quiet my sister and her husband came to visit And what time is it at this point? Probably like 9 10 o'clock at night. What? Yeah, I Mean, it's it was a 24-hour birth a 24-hour Wow, but it didn't feel that long. I just felt safe. Yeah felt It's just you know Hospitals are weird hospitals are scary hospitals are Boring but I just felt really excited and really safe and really lucky that things were that I was healthy and she was healthy and I
[40:20] Don't know. I remember the moment you saw her face. God. Yeah. Yeah, I do. I also have it on video Yeah It's I do I love watching it's really dark but um, who shot it my doula yeah, she was amazing she was incredible and It's just perfect. It was just Quiet and beautiful. It was the best moment of my life for sure and I would do it again a heartbeat. I mean she was just she's she was a wonderful. She opened her eyes and Right away and you know, we just Connected she connected with Tommy. That was the first person she looked at and They still have this I mean father-daughter connection It beats it trumps everything. It's amazing. I can't I will never be able to connect to her that way and that's okay
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[41:18] I'll have one baby where I remember that moment so clearly Partially I think because of faces like I can't picture that little faces. I'm partially because I'm usually crying like a baby, but I our home birth where it was a water birth and He came out in the tub the for your first kid our fourth fourth kid was a water birth yeah, and the midwife just kind of put the baby still under water in my wife's hands and She brought him up to the surface and to just see his little face come right up to the water surface of the water and then come out he didn't cry it wasn't like panic he was just Eyes open and he was looking at me and he was looking at her. I'll never forget that
[42:01] Moment and I didn't I didn't cry I was like sort of crying tears of joy inside But it was like it was like too beautiful to cry at that moment I just didn't want to lose it and that is so strongly burned in my head. That's amazing It's an amazing memory and I don't know always I still cry I've been to so many births and when those babies come out, it's like I don't know why it's like I break down
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[42:26] They're like dr. B. Come take a picture and I was like, I was watching a lot of birth videos before I had her to get ready, especially when I was scared in the beginning the early days of pregnancy and Every time the baby came out. I was just a mess alone watching these videos a mess Because it is even that commercial. I don't know what the commercial Johnson and Johnson I don't know what it is But this woman is giving birth and they give her her child and it's just it kills me and now it's just that Boss it just will never turn off. That's it. I'm a parent now and yeah I appreciate things in a way that I never have and I know Everybody's told me that that that was what was gonna happen. But now I'm finally experiencing it. Mm-hmm. So
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[43:18] You I'm mixed on you on breastfeeding because he's oh
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[43:27] Breastfeeding You know, I was ready to quit about five days in Because it was the searing pain and I couldn't get a good latch. Yeah, she'd have her tongue tongue was a little bit shorter and It's seen Linda the Linda Hannah. Mm-hmm a couple times She's a good lactation coach my nursing coach. Oh god, that's her company, right? Yeah and Mobile mobile amazing. It's just amazing. So she gives me so much confidence But it was hurting so much and I was over producing and I know I I hate to be that girl. I Make too much milk There are people that make no milk some milk a lot of milk I am that person and I got my status very early on it was really bad. I kind of knew I was gonna get it because I'd heard about it and
[44:25] I am just I'm I have a good sized chest to begin with and This is not fun, but it's it's regulated a little bit I've really got it's a it's like the biggest puzzle. I could never figure out every day I'd wake up and I'd be like, how do I so so Now what now what should I try now? What should I try? Should I try pumping four ounces every three hours and and try to store for the trip that I'm taking soon or should I? Should I stop pumping for a little while and only nursed? Maybe she's like how do I know what she's getting and how do I stop producing so much? What is the cabbage leaf gonna do? Can I use a nipple shield? Will she get to use to the bottle and it's just all these questions and it just figures itself out and you just have
[45:15] To be patient with yourself because seven weeks down the line. I Have mastered it in a way for me. I have mastered it. I Use a nipple shield and I have no guilt for it No, and she's getting milk. She's gaining weight like a champ and I'm It keeps the pain It's for the pain because for whatever reason I do sometimes feed her without the nipple shield just Test it out to test it out. Yeah, maybe I don't need the shield anymore and It It's a different experience. Mm-hmm, and I don't want to not look forward to breastfeeding here Sure. I want to look forward to it in a way that it's you look forward to it Now I'm more indifferent. You I used to be fearful of it
[46:14] Evolving now that you have it kind of down. I have it down. Well, then why do you think you were feeling guilty about using? That shield because they make you sign a waiver when you pick it up at the pump station That says it says it's not for long-term use well that we're not Is that medically or I don't know I didn't understand it either It's so strange and so it's like a release form. Like I understand that, you know, you're not liable for anything Maybe nipple confusion or I don't know but she doesn't seem to have any of that I'm really lucky in that way. I give her a couple bottles a day. I gave her my breasts great a lot And my milk is coming in and it's fantastic and I sleep
[46:57] Then I take a break at night and that was the best advice I ever got yeah Scott Cohen Take a break at night your boobs will Regularly figured out figured out that you're taking a break at the same time right and you can sleep It's like you get to sleep like a normal chunk of time. Yeah, and also I have no guilt about having my mom being our night nurse
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[47:19] Yeah, why would that?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[47:21] because so many people and so many of my friends who aren't judging me, but I Am that I mean, they don't have a night nurse. They choose to do it. Just the two of them
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[47:32] And you know what choice I mean, how?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[47:36] Do you function when you don't have someone doing the night, you know the nighttime like I I Need sleep. I don't know how but most people do it and I'm just I'm in awe
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[47:47] I am total of my wife and everybody else who does it but I was fairly useless especially on the later kids when I was working more and You know think about that should be up two or three times even more three or four times Feeding the newborn and then wake up in the morning and there's a two-year-old and a four-year-old
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[48:05] That's what I can wear in the gout. Did you not have a nanny?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[48:09] You know as we had more and more kids we would have a night nurse come from like 10 p.m Till 7 a.m. Right just so Alyssa would still feed the baby because she wanted to and then But the nanny or the postpartum doula, I guess would be Sleeping in the room with them or hang out in the room with them with the baby so that When the baby is ready to eat they'd come right to my wife She'd feed the baby for 25 minutes and then all the burping and diaper changing and if the baby didn't settle right back down Was happening in a different part of the house so that she could sleep so that we could sleep But with the first one we did it on her own You know we did on her own but I wasn't working nearly as much she she I
[48:52] Would wake up in the morning early and take him for a long walk so she can sleep later Wow like we're able to figure it out, and she loved loved loved to do it I mean she really didn't want anybody else to do it, and that's that's Choice and amazing I other people don't have to feel that way like if you don't do well with not sleeping Then if you're gonna be a you know rotten shape the next day, then what are you giving your baby?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[49:18] A healthy kid yeah, I agree with that for sure, and that's another thing like I didn't get off my antidepressant it's really for anti-anxiety for me, but I've been taking lexapro for years and years and years and I didn't get off of it. Yeah I was on an extremely low dose all pregnancy long yeah
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[49:37] Oh, yeah, and then out and you still are yeah, and you didn't have any postpartum issues Mental health issues
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[49:47] Better Better Yeah, like postpartum high yeah, I kind of my very small group on Facebook by the way really yeah
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[49:58] I'm postpartum elation
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[50:00] Is that what it's called no? I'm just making it up. I'm just saying oh my god Yeah, and my my that lucky you're the one it's pretty awesome No, some a lot of people feel great after they have a baby, but I felt like that after I did encapsulate my placenta Same oh you ate the placenta heaven. Yeah, those pills like happy are they I never noticed a difference
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[50:19] But but you didn't we weren't feeling bad. I wasn't feeling bad exactly, so I don't know
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[50:24] I don't know. I don't know that I was feeling bad I was definitely feeling very depleted and I felt like in very bad shape like it Amazed me that when you're charged with the greatest responsible of your life You feel like a truck just ran into your vagina. Oh my god, and now you have to it's like
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[50:39] Yeah, but then you have to work full-time like the whole baby taking care of the baby and feeding a baby
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[50:46] Yeah, and I remember feeling depleted, but and I remember taking those and I would they were like happy pills to me You're so lucky It's got happening. Are you kidding me? I guarded those things I think they're really creeped out by it. Yeah Mom who's done this is
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[51:15] Not a lot, you know a lot of the very earthy guys try the milk
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[51:20] Yep. No, um, I mean I
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[51:23] Wouldn't try it. You're not gonna drink it. You didn't try your milk. No, you didn't
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[51:29] No, I just had it. I'll tell you about it. Okay. Later. It's about it later You know, it's not about me. I would tell the story that was about me, but it's not Okay, so I know a guy who in his office women are always pregnant or nursing and
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[51:45] They'll
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[51:48] We almost put it in our mac and cheese last night we thought about it because we'd have any well when you taste it You're not are you serious? I'm not interested in the least Yeah, my sister tasted it. It was your milk sort of sweet. Yeah, I'm sure I tasted at some point
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[52:04] Because we put it on stuff like if you have an infection, yeah, I put on my face
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[52:07] I put on her face. Yeah, if she has some kind of breakout, which she doesn't anymore. It's weird They go through so many phases. Yeah, and it's only been seven weeks
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[52:16] Never stop every week. There's something new. I have a few questions for you from our audience Did people say weird things to you during pregnancy? No
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[52:31] Not all no one wanted to touch my stomach really
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[52:35] Nobody wants to really ever. Yeah, really? Yeah, I don't even want to touch my stomach
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[52:40] But it's different. Yeah, I guess nobody wanted to do you want them to be touching your I didn't mind. I said that nobody wanted to touch your stomach. I was a little Confused Yeah, because people tell you that everybody's gonna want to touch your stomach
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[52:57] Did you feel your baby a lot in your belly like with your hands?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[53:01] Could you tell the different parts no, no, I would pretend I could yeah definitely You know, it's so funny
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[53:09] When I moved to Los Angeles We thought we were gonna see celebrities all over the place, right? And this is before I knew I was face-blind. I would just and we we had my wife isn't face-blind
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[53:21] We hadn't seen anybody like you still can't see a celebrity. I still can't but she can
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[53:26] But after four months of not spotting anybody We would just stop at a red light and make up celebrities
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[53:37] Can I interject a question is there anything that you know now that you wish you had known When you were pregnant or before you had before you went into labor so many things and I can't remember right now That's a great question anything that surprised you I mean any of that kind of stuff
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[53:55] Either way or things people told you were gonna happen, but they didn't happen. I mean everything enough. I mean
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[54:06] Or maybe what's something if
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[54:09] How about this? What is a great piece of advice somebody gave you? Was that the question and I just rephrased it well sort of I was gonna say or if you were giving advice to someone
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[54:17] Like what would you give that stand out the most to you about like labor delivery newborn? Labor delivery newborn epidural get an epidural. Yeah Also
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[54:33] Would you say get an epidural no matter what or get an epidural if you feel like you want an epidural?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[54:37] Oh if you want an epidural get it. Yeah, just go for it question it if it's if if I mean It's it's if you want to feel If you want to take some of the Some of the some of the stress away absolutely get an epidural There's no reason not to I I don't think Also, I don't I don't oh my god. I can't believe I'm blank right now. I'm also delirious It might be because you have a seven-week-old Take a boot break. Oh, yeah, and always I like all that advice
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[55:15] I feel like if you feel like you need one
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[55:18] Take a boot break if you feel like you need one take a boot break feel like you need an epidural if you hate Breastfeeding or want one and it's only a weekend. Give it a shot. Okay, I feel like
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[55:30] 90% of our patients who breastfeed successfully Felt like they were gonna quit at least one time. Yeah, really felt like they were gonna quit at least one time I think that's a great piece of advice just keep
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[55:44] Trying and I kept I have a bunch of friends My one of my friends has a ten and a half month old and she's like, I love it now that also Wear gloves when you do your dishes because you're never gonna wash so many things that you never gonna wash more It is Insane how much you have to sanitize stuff. I do not know about that. The bottle washing has killed my hands I have a screaming case of eczema that just will not go away. I feel like that's a first baby thing Really? Yes, it probably is get less clean. Like you don't care as much Yeah, you're like I'll just rinse it. We don't pre wash the clothing anymore
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[56:27] Rinse and go. Yeah, it's true. It's almost Mother's Day your first Is there anything you want for Mother's Day or on Mother's Day to be special I
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[56:40] Would like no, I would just like a really nice breakfast. Mm-hmm Which is what I get almost every day. I don't know maybe some flowers
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[56:54] I mean, does it feel kind of a I mean, I would like her to feed herself
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[56:59] Just give me a break she owes you Yeah, she can make you breakfast She'll be incredible. She'll be eight weeks. Yeah. Yeah, almost eight weeks. It's not too much to ask
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[57:12] Is there an interview question that you hope nobody asks? Yeah, I mean there are a lot of them. Yeah, what's one of them? That was that popped into my head on the way here. I'm not gonna find the question that makes you scorn
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[57:29] But you know, I just there's so many questions that I would be horrified if somebody asked me I mean Like having to do with everybody else because I'm such a big mouth I used to be I've had to like really filter myself down over the years a big mouth in what way? I would just say too much and I know I realize now I can't actually talk about other people in interviews because it's not mine. You sure too much for them Yeah To share too much about myself, which I am I'm not very I'm not embarrassed by much I've got like a good amount of humility. I can't I can't think of any question that I wouldn't you share so much Yeah, well, that's what's so weird
[58:16] Like I wouldn't want you to ask me what her name is because I wouldn't tell you because it's oh that's about her though It's about yeah us as a family sort of and the more people that know her name then nobody knows the man I mean our friends do and that's not what that caused a lot of embroidery Towels so many embroidered burp cloths. You can never have too many birth cloths A perfect swaddle is just the wombies That's the best now that you're saying that might be the best like thing
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[59:05] What was your favorite baby gift? Oh
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[59:07] I think I gotta say it's probably This little rabbit that best friend Rachel got her and The dog ate the arm off of it and my mom got the arm and so did I It's so tiny and it's so cute and I think that's the best gift we got a lot of hand-me-downs You don't need that much clothing. No, you really don't know you're gonna wear the same five things that really work Yeah, and then I'll grow it. Yeah and t-shirt onesies What is the point for a newborn? Yeah T-shirts at all that aren't onesies that don't snap underneath. There's no point riding right on up. There's absolutely no Forget it
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[59:55] Gosh Amanda, thank you so much for joining us. It's late I want to let you get back to your I feel like I came with all this
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[60:02] I wanted to come with all this information and I was so excited to share all this information And I can't wait to like share my experience with expectant mothers like I love our friends who are pregnant because I get to just Share all the things that are important and that I found really in from like information that I felt was really like helpful and Remained true Throughout my experience. So this was really fun. I don't feel like I said enough, but I know like I'm also a talker So maybe I did you said you said you should have given them out
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[60:36] But if what you're saying is will we have you back on the podcast in a few months to see how it's great
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[60:41] Yeah, absolutely. We're all we're always gonna be back wonderful. I can't wait. Maybe Tommy. I'll come back with you Tommy's really good at talking. Okay, Tommy's really good at talking nicely Sentences together that sounded great amazing
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[60:59] Thank you you shared amazing stuff I really appreciate you being here and I really do feel like glamour magazine had it right you're so down-to-earth like if You're like my down-to-earth role model. Oh, no, that is so nice

“Yeah, there are no consequences when I'm acting. I can cry and not have any, I have a weird shame with crying that I'm trying to work out.”

Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[0:29] Welcome to the Informed Pregnancy and Parenting podcast. I'm your host, Dr. LA Berlin. I'm joined by today's cohost, toddler mom and stylist, Casey Bixby.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[0:39] Thanks.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[0:39] Good to have you back. Our guest today is actress, model, singer, songwriter and brand new mom, Amanda Seyfried. Welcome to the podcast.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[0:47] Hey, thanks.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[0:48] I just met you a couple of weeks ago and I told you how I'm face blind and I don't recognize anybody by face and I don't know if we talked about this, but because of that, it's really annoying and hard for me to watch TV and movies. At a movie of like 90 minutes to get the whole thing, it takes me like 50 to figure out who's who and then usually if I run out of popcorn, I'm just sad because the rest of it, I don't get it. And TV series are also really hard. I have to watch them like three or four times. You know, Amazon has a thing called X-Ray on the Kindle and it overlays what you're watching and every time somebody pops up, it tells you who it is.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[1:30] Really? What? Yeah. I love it. That's great for you.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[1:33] It's perfect for me. It does other things like- It's great for you
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[1:36] and annoying to anybody else.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[1:37] Right, I don't know why they have it, but I was like, that's so nice
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[1:40] that they were thinking that way. You have to figure out why that's a thing, why they developed that.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[1:44] Because of trivia, I think you pop up like, the actor pops up and the character pops up and you can click on it to find out more about them, but every time a song plays, the song pops up and you can buy it.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[1:55] Oh, so it's like pop-up video.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[1:57] Yeah, kind of. But every time an actor comes up, the same headshot comes up and I get used to it and I could sort of watch stuff on Amazon Kindle that I can't watch on anything else.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[2:10] Who knew?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[2:11] But anyway, all this great talent is coming up through the pipeline and I'm like at a total loss. And so when I met you, you were super grounded and said really interesting things and I thought, wow, this is great. And then it turns out, you have a ginormous career in entertainment. First of all, this is really weird about you that you don't know. You look like somebody to me.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[2:35] Really? Yeah. That's crazy.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[2:38] Nobody looks like somebody to me. I know and I was trying to figure out
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[2:41] who do you look like.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[2:43] So I Googled who do you look like and the two that came out of are, do you know who they are?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[2:49] Who people think you look like? Dakota Fanning? Dakota Fanning. Really? Yes.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[2:54] Rapunzel from the Twisted movie, from the Tingle movie.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[2:58] I auditioned for that. That's a good one. You did? And rumor has it, it was between Mandy Moore and me.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[3:04] No, so maybe they thought you were gonna get it.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[3:07] Is that one of the people that you thought she was?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[3:10] No, for some reason, what popped into my mind was, and you may not look at all like these people, I don't even know what they look like, like young Madonna.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[3:21] Not at all?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[3:22] Okay, not at all. Or maybe like Kate Hudson?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[3:29] I would say that's much closer.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[3:31] Than young Madonna? You can picture young Madonna?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[3:33] I'll take both of them. Yeah, I guess those are both good.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[3:36] It was like a smush between Kate Hudson and young Madonna.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[3:40] Maybe actually, yeah, if you mix them together, yes, I could see that.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[3:43] Yeah, if Kate Hudson and young Madonna had a baby and she grew up.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[3:48] I swear some magazine article a long time ago smushed Madonna with some guy, I don't remember who it was, and they produced a picture of me. Really? Yeah. Seems like a not-for-all.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[4:01] Very silly thing, yeah. I can't tell faces, but I can smush people together.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[4:03] There you go. That is crazy.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[4:05] Is there somebody you think you look like?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[4:08] No. I thought when I was younger, I could possibly look like Heather Graham. I was obsessed with the spy who shagged me and the way her hair looked, because it was so luxurious. But I don't know, I guess I don't.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[4:28] I don't know, I don't even know who I look like.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[4:31] You look like you. Yeah. Thank you.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[4:34] That means a lot to me.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[4:36] I have to think about it.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[4:37] You have a lot of stuff, actor, model, singer, songwriter, and now mom. Are you an actor or an actress?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[4:47] A couple years ago, they decided to get rid of the term actress. Oh, really? It's officially done? The same as extras. They don't call them extras anymore. They call them background artists. And around the same time, they're like actresses and actors. They're all just actors. I forget why. Maybe just to make, it's tied to equality in some way. But you made a point last week about calling yourself an actress, right?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[5:19] Yeah, because I think people still do call themselves that.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[5:21] Yeah, I guess I'm an actress. I am a girl and I'm proud of it.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[5:25] Well, I guess you could be an actor and be a girl and be proud of it, but it's like if somebody had never met you and said, what do you do? What would you say?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[5:35] I'm an actor. Yeah. Because my friend would be like, I'm a chef. She's a girl, but a chef is the same word.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[5:41] But there's no chef-er-us.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[5:43] A chef-us. Most jobs don't have the female corresponding word. On Howard Stern, I forget who was saying it, but the other day, whoever was on was saying the difference between an actor and an actress is that an actress is much better looking.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[6:02] I can't really argue with that.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[6:06] Okay.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[6:07] I wanna get into where you came from and your whole history, because I think it's really interesting. You were born in 1985 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. This is serious fact-checking from Wikipedia, so there's a chance some of it's not accurate.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[6:24] The source of all sources. Yeah, it is real.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[6:27] Everything on there is right. Your mom was an occupational therapist, which is almost like a carp rocker.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[6:34] Is it?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[6:35] Sort of. We both do funky stuff to the body.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[6:38] She works, I mean she worked up until, up until seven, eight, nine weeks ago, she retired, she was working on a psych ward. So she does groups, music therapy, art therapy, mindfulness techniques. She's not the regarding Henry occupational therapist, because in the movie regarding Henry, Harrison Ford was seeing the occupational therapist. I'm like, mommy, do you do that? And she's like, no, not necessarily. So when you were growing up,
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[7:11] she was working in psych wards?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[7:12] Yeah, the whole time she's worked the same one.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[7:14] Until just now.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[7:15] Wow. I'm kidding. Yeah, I mean she still kind of works in a psych ward, but that's in quotes. She works in our house.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[7:24] Oh, that's your psych ward. Oh, well she has a lot of experience.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[7:27] She really does. She's very patient because of her job, so that's good. That's helpful. Yes.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[7:35] I feel like I wish I could be more patient with my family.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[7:38] Yeah, me too. Don't we all?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[7:41] Yeah, we should all work in a psych ward.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[7:43] I know, I mean it just. It's good, it's good training, I would imagine. It's incredible.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[7:47] It's like when you're in medical school and you do all these residencies and different kind of, you know, you have to do OB-GYN, you should have, as a parent, before you become a parent, I think you should have to do some psych ward training.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[7:57] Do you remember her seeming really patient when you were younger, when growing up? Yeah, it seemed like nothing affected her. Now I know that was just a survival method that she used, but.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[8:16] I mean, I don't want to be affected, but sometimes you just can't control it.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[8:20] But I think it's nice that you're affected because you're connected to what's happening.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[8:24] Well, so you wish you was more reactive.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[8:26] I think I could have had a little bit more of a reactive kind of give and take with my mom. I think I just, I saw her as a very strong rock, and that's great, but also kind of almost, you couldn't really puncture her. Like access? Yeah, there was a lot that you couldn't access.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[8:52] Oh, so to be neutral, she, or to stay.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[8:55] She went a little too far.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[8:56] She went too far and just didn't have any.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[8:58] Yeah, she repressed. Numb. Right, which, and then also, I guess, to work in that job you have to, right? To like survive. Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[9:09] I guess so. Like I was a parent, I worked in ambulances
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[9:12] and growing up. Really?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[9:13] Yeah, and you were just like, sometimes people are on that edge, you know? And you can't freak out. You have to stay calm.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[9:21] Right.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[9:22] And when I was 19, 20, 21, it's easy because you're so far away from death, but it does make you kind of a little bit less reactive to things going on around you.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[9:32] Yeah, when you get used to something.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[9:35] Yeah, just, I don't know. I do think I bring that into parenting, like when my kids are hit something and they're gushing blood, I don't freak out about it.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[9:44] Well, it's probably good. Yeah, that's better. That's better for the kid.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[9:48] But when they're emotionally freaking out, then I get involved. Yeah. Where's Seifried from, that, it's…
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[9:56] I think it's German. I think it used to be Siegfried. Oh, really? I think. Seifried. You should Wikipedia that.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[10:03] Do you know any other Seifrieds? Besides your family?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[10:08] Yeah, because of social media. There are, I have found people that are not related to me, I mean, as much as I know, you know, with the same last name in England, random places in America, it's really weird.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[10:28] I found an Elliott Berlin who made a Holocaust movie called Paper Clips.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[10:33] Whoa.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[10:34] Yeah, and the way I found him is, a year and a half after I moved here, my mother called me and said, did you make a documentary about the Holocaust? And I was like, what are you talking about? I'm a chiropractor. And she's like, oh, okay, because I went and we did the screening for all my friends that I set up, and then the screen went black and it said directed by Elliott Berlin.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[10:53] Oh, she was just randomly screening that movie.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[10:55] She saw this Holocaust movie, so she set up a screening and they were sitting with her friends and said, Elliott Berlin, and they said, Becky, you should have told us. And she's like, I didn't know.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[11:05] That's nuts.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[11:05] And she called me and she's like, yeah, I'm like, I think, you know, she's like, you don't tell me everything. And I'm like, I don't tell you what I had for lunch yesterday because I don't remember, but I would have told you if I filmed this movie and premiered it all over town.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[11:20] Did it end up being a good movie?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[11:21] I thought it was really powerful. It's this teacher who did a project. She was teaching about the Holocaust and how six million Jews died and they couldn't really, the kids had a hard time understanding the number of the impact of six million. And so she had them collect six million paperclips from all sorts. They wrote to different companies getting paperclip donations. And then they sort of looked at that giant amount of paperclips and thought about that number of people. It was a powerful movie.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[11:48] I recommend it. Documentary? Yeah, paperclips.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[11:51] I started getting emails for him all the time.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[11:55] Have you ever met him? Yeah, where is he?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[11:57] I almost met him. Unfortunately, he died young. He got cancer and died, but I called him one time because somebody offered me a job directing a movie. And I was like, I think you have the wrong guy, but I would love to take that offer.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[12:09] Anyway. Oh my God.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[12:11] So there's other Seyfrieds. Do people pronounce it wrong?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[12:14] Yeah, yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[12:16] Really bad?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[12:17] Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[12:18] Because there's a lot of ways to go with it.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[12:19] Yeah, there are. My sister pronounces it wrong.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[12:22] Oh, really?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[12:23] Yeah, we have this.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[12:24] Does she say the same about you?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[12:25] Yeah, exactly. She's like, it's Seyfried. And I'm like, it's Seyfried. Everybody says it like that. And then I was thinking, well. I totally got it wrong. It's fine. Like it's fine. I don't mind when I go on talk shows, I have to write it out phonetically, but I was thinking of taking my husband's last name. I mean, I will down the line at some point before I have to travel because of the global entry thing. But people pronounce his name wrong too. And it's actually spelled phonetically.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[12:54] How's it pronounced?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[12:56] Sadosky, the way it's spelled. There's no W.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[13:00] Oh, people say dosky?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[13:02] They say Sadowsky. Oh, Dowsky. Or they make up something completely different. And it's just as bad as my name. And you'd think that if something's spelled phonetically, it would be easier to pronounce.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[13:15] I got really lucky because I was going to say Seyfried.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[13:18] But yeah, Berlin, I'm Bixby, so I know what you're making.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[13:21] Oh, do you get a hard time?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[13:22] Isn't it spelled out like how is it spelled? How do people say Bixby? It's just spelled so weird, that's why.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[13:27] What would they?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[13:29] They don't, they say, how do you say that? No way. There's Ys, there's Xs, it's very confusing.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[13:35] I found a YouTube video where you said it yourself and I'm like, and then I spelled it out phonetically. But I could see how dosky, dosky, and dowsky can get confused.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[13:47] Yeah, but there's no W. Like, there's no W, people.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[13:51] But it hits you when you look at it. It's a name, it's not a word.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[13:54] Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[13:55] All right. So then you start modeling at age 11, which is already fascinating. I have an 11-year-old daughter. She, I'm trying to think if I would ask her to go get a job, no chance. What happened to you at 11 years old?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[14:14] Oh, modeling is not a job. When you're 11, it's this glamorous.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[14:19] Were you seeking it out, or did it seek? You wanted a model at 11.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[14:23] Because I wanted to be a supermodel because it was glamorous and paid you lots of money from my 11-year-old viewpoint. It just seemed like the coolest thing ever. But it was, it was really fun. But you're shy.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[14:41] You were shy, you were not shy.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[14:43] Actually, yes, I was shy. I was shy at that point.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[14:45] So that's what doesn't add up for me. How do you wanna be a supermodel where everybody's looking at? Because of face blindness, I was totally shy. But big, so you can't hide. And how do you then say I wanna be a model, but I'm shy? You don't know, they just work for you.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[15:06] Yeah, it's weird. I went in and out of that. Sometimes I was an introvert, and then a lot of times I was the absolute opposite. And I just, I mean, the older I got, I kind of went inward a little bit. But I'm also an actor, and I was also auditioning all the time in New York when I was shy. So it's a completely different part of me.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[15:26] But does part of you become an actor to be somebody else?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[15:29] Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[15:30] So then it's not you.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[15:31] Yeah, there are no consequences when I'm acting. I can cry and not have any, I have a weird shame with crying that I'm trying to work out. And-
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[15:39] What makes you cry?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[15:44] Being yelled at or feeling like I've done something wrong or hurting someone's feelings makes me cry. And it just feels so wrong to do in front of people. To cry? Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[15:58] Does that, you think, go back to your mom who had no emotions?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[16:01] Maybe.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[16:03] Maybe you feel like you're not supposed to emote.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[16:05] Yeah, like it's dangerous.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[16:08] I wonder what it would have been if you grew up with emojis.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[16:11] Oh my God. If I had just texted you. If I had just texted you. It just would have been- Exactly.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[16:15] Everyone would have been meh.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[16:16] Are you this one or this one today, mommy? Please.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[16:19] Please be an emoji. And every time it would just be meh.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[16:22] Yeah, straight line for a mouth.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[16:26] You grew up in a meh house. So how did you get a modeling job at 11?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[16:31] I don't, oh God, I don't know. I went to New York and I signed with Wilhelmina Models. At 11? At 11, or maybe I was 12 at that point. But I was, but I, I did get a local job for this place called Lenco when I was 11. Maybe I was even 10. With the local modeling agency, Allentown. And it was really exciting because I got to miss half of science class.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[16:58] Oh, I see. My daughter might do a modeling job for that.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[17:00] Yeah, it's great. And especially when you come to school and you think about doing something and finding success at that early age because success in quotes. Because you're doing what you sought out to do. What you wanted to do. But I was modeling pajamas. It doesn't matter though. I guess it was still a big deal to me. Sure.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[17:20] It's a gig.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[17:21] Yeah. You're doing it. Yeah, I'm sure it paid.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[17:25] Wikipedia says you had an obsession with Leonardo DiCaprio.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[17:29] Yeah, I watched Gilbert, I was obsessed with Gilbert Grape and Romeo and Juliet. And Titanic was around that time. How many times do you think you went to see it? I went to see it six times, I remember. And I saved all the tickets. I was obsessed with that movie. I was obsessed with, it ended up just that I was always obsessed with all of his movies. Up until a certain point, like This Boy's Life, Basketball Diaries.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[17:52] I actually watched Titanic and followed it through. Yeah. There's very few movies like that in TV shows that I can watch all of it through. For me, I think the music really.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[18:04] James Horner.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[18:05] Oh, I can't picture what she looks like
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[18:07] but I can hear her. No, Celine Dion.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[18:09] Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I can't picture what she looks like but in my head, that music is so strong.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[18:14] Do you remember when Titanic, when you bought the DVDs, it was two DVDs. Yes. You just switched them? Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[18:22] Oh, for the, because it was too long?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[18:23] Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[18:24] For a DVD, back when they had DVDs?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[18:26] Yep. And I remember calling the local radio station to request them to play My Heart Will Go On. Oh yeah. Oh. A million times. Where are you from? Arizona. Yeah, yeah. We had a, we have B104, it was local. I mean, small enough town, right? Yeah. Yeah, it's really funny. Casey Kasem did his show on all the radio stations all across the country on Sunday nights, right? Yeah. Something like that and yeah, that would play, God.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[18:54] Your early acting gigs were, started at age 15.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[18:59] Yep, yeah, yeah, yeah. Silk puppers. My first real job. My first paying acting job was 15. Wayne, so then when you went to New York, you went at 11, did you guys move there? No. How's that work? I was, it was a bus ride away. It was like two hours. Oh, from Manhattan. Really close.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[19:18] Did somebody come with you?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[19:19] My mom. Nah. Yeah. She was just like, yeah, you wanna do that? Okay, but if it's, you know, if I can't come with you, you're gonna have to either not go or you're gonna have to go with your dad.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[19:32] Is that bad?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[19:33] Well, it was just, I, my mom's like super savvy and city smart and my dad's like, duh. Oh.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[19:40] That's a totally different emoji.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[19:43] Yeah, yeah. Yeah, but he did actually come with me the second day of that first job.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[19:50] We are gonna take a quick commercial break. Don't go anywhere. We'll be right back.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[21:34] The day that they decided I was so bad that they couldn't have me back. Really? Mm-hmm.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[21:39] You got fired from your first job?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[21:40] Yeah. And I found out-
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[21:42] That's for-
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[21:43] On set.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[21:43] Wow, how does that? Cause you're 15, you're 15.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[21:45] Yeah, and I was devastated. I knew it was hard. Like the first day I was, you know, I just remember wearing a lot of pink and feeling really scared and the lights were too bright. Did you have training in acting? No, not really. I did some classes at the local modeling agency.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[22:02] You just went into audition, did a read and so you're just born with acting in you.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[22:08] There is, I do believe there's instinct but in order to build on that instinct or like be able to recognize that instinct and utilize it, you have to have confidence. Not, you know, some level of confidence in order to perform.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[22:27] So there's instinct and confidence but then there's training after that.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[22:30] There's also training, there's also knowledge, education. Yeah. Wow. Which you don't have a lot of, I didn't have a lot of at that point. Now I do cause it's, I consider on the job training just as important as schooling.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[22:45] As formal training, yeah. That's how I felt about science class.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[22:49] Really?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[22:50] I never went to do modeling.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[22:52] Oh yeah, yeah. Yeah, I get it.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[22:55] But I'm great at Trivial Pursuit when those science questions come up.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[22:59] Because you weren't a little late to class.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[23:00] Yeah, I stuck around school. I probably kick your…
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[23:04] Oh, in so many ways.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[23:05] Just, no, just on that green wedge
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[23:07] on the Trivial Pursuit. That's your section.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[23:09] That's me, that's my wedge. Oh, is it a, you call it a section?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[23:13] Isn't it a section of cars? It's a wedge.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[23:15] No, it's the little, yeah, but the little wedge that goes in the pie.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[23:18] Oh, got you. I don't know where, I don't know this. Trivial Pursuit? I haven't played Trivial Pursuit for some time. I haven't played Trivial Pursuit since it was, since my junior Trivial Pursuit box.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[23:28] Since movies came out on DVD.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[23:30] Yeah. Yeah, basically. Since our two, our two just Titanic.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[23:34] What happened, so if you're that rejected and devastated, I mean, how do you get back up and do it again?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[23:42] Your mom comes up to your room and says, you know, sweetie, when one door closes, another door opens, and you just have to trust.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[23:53] And that spoke to you. You did it.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[23:55] Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[23:56] Well, that's really cool.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[23:58] You know, she was, that's all she had to say. It was amazing. I also had boys to distract me, and tennis, and, you know, bad grades. Right. So it's not like it was my whole life, that show or acting.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[24:14] I can see how when you get rejected at work, bad grades help you feel better.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[24:19] Yeah. Or at least trying to get them up. You had a lot going on. Yeah, I had a lot going on. I was 15 years old. Yeah. I was a freshman in high school.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[24:26] That's crazy still to me. And so at 15, you, but you went back in and you got another job.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[24:32] I did, a year later. Soaps. Yeah, another soap.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[24:35] How was that?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[24:36] It was great. They didn't fire me until I stuck around for 10 months. So that's a, it was a difference.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[24:43] What character are you playing at 15? Are you playing a teenager?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[24:47] I was playing a teenager who was really religious and her parents were really freaked out because she started dating this African-American kid who is now, who is Michael B. Jordan, the actor. Oh. Do you know that guy? That's amazing. We started out together. It's amazing. He was younger than me.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[25:07] He probably still is.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[25:08] I think he might still be younger than me. Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[25:11] But I don't know.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[25:11] It's Hollywood.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[25:12] Nothing stays the same. One door closes, not the door opens.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[25:15] That's awesome.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[25:18] Okay. Did you like acting or modeling better?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[25:21] Oh, acting.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[25:23] You liked acting better?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[25:24] Yeah. Oh yeah, modeling was boring. So, so boring. Really? Photoshoots are so boring.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[25:31] But that was the original dream, supermodel.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[25:33] Yeah. And then I learned quick. Super actor. Yeah. I actually was shooting a campaign last year with a bunch of supermodels and like really well-known ones. I was kind of starstruck. And one of them was a Victoria's Secret model and she was telling me about what her life is like. Right. And when they shoot on the beach, it's 38, 45 degrees. Or with the wind, it's just so bad. And we were shooting up north of London outside and I was the only one that they took out because it got so cold and we were all wearing dresses. I was the only one that they pulled because I was the actor involved with all these models and I felt really terrible that they were treating me better than the rest.
[26:16] Wow. You're getting warmth. Yeah, I was getting warmth. I was freezing and they were all freezing and I felt really bad but I was like, I can't do it anymore. It's so painful. It is painful. Modeling is standing still and the freezing cold is painful and that's what it's all about.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[26:32] But they look good somehow. That's even, they're really acting.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[26:36] They are.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[26:37] They can turn.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[26:38] My mom could so easily have been a supermodel. Yep.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[26:44] Just hold the face, hold the face.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[26:45] Hold the face. Yep, keep the emotions in, sorry.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[26:48] Before we get to one of your biggest breaks ever, I had another question. If you're in soap operas playing a teenager and you are a teenager, how does that affect your social life?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[27:01] I didn't talk about it because I never wanted anybody to think I was bragging or that I thought I was better than them.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[27:06] But they didn't know.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[27:07] They knew but I didn't talk about it. I really never talked about it. I was embarrassed. Just like elephant in the room.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[27:14] That's Amanda. She's on, what are your only children as a woman?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[27:17] Yeah but nobody watched it because it was during school. Well you probably just want to be normal, right? Yeah and also it was just a, you know, I'd go in once or twice a week. It wasn't that big of a deal. And it was also, I was just, it started halfway through my senior year.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[27:31] Were they filming in New York?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[27:32] Mm-hmm. Oh. Yep.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[27:35] That's before like all the housewives.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[27:38] Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[27:38] Because now that's the new soap operas.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[27:40] That is exactly and they only have General Hospital.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[27:43] That's the last of the Mohicans?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[27:45] No.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[27:46] Okay. That's my favorite one.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[27:49] Yeah, me too. You're not a Days of Our Lives person. Not me, no. Really? No. That was on before General Hospital. But how did you love it so much if you were in school? General Hospital was at three. Yeah I don't know how we were watching it. VCR, did you tape it? Right, you'd probably tape it on VCR. Probably, yeah. Or in Days of Our Lives. Or maybe did it rerun later in the day? I don't know how I was watching that.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[28:12] And on Sunday it was only Golf or Jesus. Worst TV ever.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[28:17] I don't know. What's it called? Golf. Golf or Jesus?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[28:21] Those are the only things on on Sunday when I was a kid.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[28:23] Yeah, yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[28:24] It was like you can watch some people in church or watch people play golf. Neither one very appealing.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[28:30] To me. Or you could have watched all your Days of Our Lives tapes.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[28:33] Yeah, that's obviously what I would do.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[28:35] That's the old school binge. Five hours. So good.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[28:40] Giant career break when you got a job as a waitress in a retirement community.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[28:46] Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[28:48] Is that still as a teenager?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[28:50] Yeah, I thought I was gonna marry the sous chef. And live and stay and be a hostess.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[28:59] At that community?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[29:00] Yeah. Did you like it? What brought you to the retirement center? It was the job that everybody was getting. It was the job that my sister had. Right. Oh, is she older? Yeah, three years. So, I was like, I'm gonna go do that and I'm gonna get minimum wage and it's better than nothing.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[29:15] Did she have, cause if your little sister's like acting and modeling, did she think about doing that too?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[29:22] No. No, she was the opposite of me. She was.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[29:26] What's the opposite of that?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[29:28] Well, I mean, if I, let's put it in like mental health. If she's depression, I'm anxiety. So, it's like, I run high and she runs really low. And she's an artist. She'll stand through.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[29:47] If you're an upper, she's a downer.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[29:48] Exactly. But not in a bad way. If you're a drug, I'm speed and she's indica? Is it indica, the slow, the long? I get so confused. Yeah, me too.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[29:58] I don't know.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[30:00] Or, yeah. Sativa, indica. One of them's an upper, one of them's a downer.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[30:06] The only drug I've ever had is xylitol, the sugar alcohol.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[30:09] Oh, wow, yeah. Amazing. Missing out. You are. Little bit. Yeah. Ever since after pregnancy, alcohol affects me differently, even alcohol.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[30:23] We can talk about that until part two.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[30:24] Oh, sorry. You're so out of line. No, baby, yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[30:28] This is the other minute.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[30:29] Wait, xylitol is something you drink? It's like a… I don't mean you're missing out. All I've done is smoke weed. Sure. No, I believe you. I'm like really putting on a different image here. Missing out. Don't do drugs, that's not what I'm saying. You can smoke a pot if that's what I'm saying. If you have a card. It's small, it's small enough amount, and you have a card.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[30:53] I wanna do, because a friend of mine shot this video where they took random people and had them do a passionate kiss. Did you see that on YouTube?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[31:01] Weird. He took what?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[31:03] It was a social experiment. I don't know how they cast it, but they just took these random people and they cast them and they put them in front of a camera and they said, you know, have a passionate kiss with a total stranger.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[31:14] Were they actors? Just random people? I'm not sure.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[31:16] They might have been aspiring actors and they might have just been random people. They posted it. It's kind of amazing to watch. They posted it and went to dinner and they came back and they had 5,000 hits on YouTube and by the next morning it was in the millions.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[31:31] Wow.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[31:31] It's just, I'll find the link and I'll put it on informedpregnancy.com. But it's kind of amazing to watch and I sort of wanna take people in their 40s who have never smoked weed and just have them smoke weed and see what happens.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[31:43] That would be awesome. We should do that. That is such a good idea. It's a really great experiment.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[31:48] Based on that reaction, we'll get started tomorrow.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[31:51] That would be great.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[31:53] I might be, and my wife also, no drugs for her either, nothing. We're like, I wanna actually smoke pot.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[32:00] It should actually just be you and Alyssa.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[32:04] I wanna smoke pot for one reason and one reason only because when my kids do it, I wanna know what's roughly going on in there.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[32:10] Yeah, and I also think you maybe built it up where it's this big deal and it's not gonna be that big of a deal.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[32:14] For me, I just have no interest, no desire. All my classmates were smoking up around me. I had no, just, I like being in control. Again, I worked in ambulances when I was young. I like seeing things for what they are. But I think my kids probably will get into it and I just wanna have some awareness of what they're.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[32:36] Well, if you do try it, just try one hit at a time. Yeah, and it's not like, you're not gonna go on like a psychedelic seeing things and stuff. Unless you buy the wrong stuff.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[32:47] Yeah, maybe I'll get lucky and buy the wrong stuff. I would just rather have a cookie.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[32:51] Don't eat, like, no, no, God, no.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[32:55] Moving back to Amanda.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[32:56] That is the worst. Don't do that. Control, forget it. Yeah, don't do that. You lost it. Really, from edibles? Yes, there's no way of knowing how much you're getting. Oh. Not once you boil that down.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[33:12] I've learned a lot here tonight on the Informed Pregnancy and Parenting podcast.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[33:16] Yeah, we're actually just giving you a drug education.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[33:22] Was Mean Girls your first movie?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[33:24] Yeah. How was that? It was amazing. I also didn't have any expectations. I was just going to work every day. Where did you shoot? To know things. Toronto.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[33:34] Oh, eh.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[33:35] And I was, eh, yeah. It's funny, I've done a lot of movies in Toronto. Toronto.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[33:41] Toronto, and weed will be legal in the entire country. Where? The legalizing marijuana in all of Canada. Recreational.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[33:51] Of course they are. Sure they are. I expect them to do these things. Quite progressive.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[33:55] So sad that we're jealous of Canada in so many ways now.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[33:58] Yeah, I mean, it is really nice to be there. It's a wonderful country. In the two cities that I've spent a lot of time in.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[34:06] Toronto and Vancouver.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[34:07] Wonderful. Really?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[34:09] Yeah.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[34:10] Now check it out.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[34:11] So Mean Girls, are you just out of high school?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[34:15] I was, yeah, I was 17. Oh, almost out of high school? I had just graduated. You graduated early? No, I graduated, no, I just went to school when I was four. Oh. So for whatever. You started early. Yeah, I started early. I had a weird cut-off at the birthdays, so I was always the youngest one in the class. When's your birthday? December 3rd.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[34:31] What does that make your sign?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[34:33] Sagittarius. Oh.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[34:34] I don't know anything about that.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[34:36] Did you like being the youngest? I hated it. Yeah. I still have a…
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[34:43] The cut-off is in December?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[34:44] It doesn't make any sense. It's still, I was always the youngest and I was always getting in trouble in first, second grade for talking, and I just feel like I wasn't ready. Right. Socially.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[34:55] And then you get yelled at and cry.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[34:58] So I feel bad about it. And feel really bad about it.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[35:02] I sort of have like a broken heart emoji. Sad, a sad emoji.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[35:06] The emoji that goes like this.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[35:08] That one, I wish it was an audio.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[35:10] So sweet. I wish there was a scent.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[35:16] So Mean Girls was good. You said awesome.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[35:19] Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[35:20] Awesome experience just shooting.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[35:21] So great. It was just, everybody was so nice and everybody was so happy to be there and there was so much free food and I had never been around that before. Oh, what a great first job. Yeah, I mean, I definitely, they had me in a girdle. Ooh, why? Because I was 17 and there was free food around.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[35:42] Oh, so you had to look at the end as you looked at the beginning? How long did it take to film that?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[35:48] Two months.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[35:49] Oh, wow, that's a long time. Did somebody come with you from your family?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[35:52] My mom. She stayed with you? She had to. What about the people at the psych ward? I was emancipated. She's taken a lot of breaks. Her job's amazing. She took a sabbatical when I was 19 once to live out here with me and for a month and a half and she took a sabbatical for two months to be with me in Toronto.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[36:10] She makes me want to be a better dad.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[36:12] Oh, I'm sure you're a great dad.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[36:14] I have a lot of emotions.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[36:16] That's okay.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[36:17] But I don't know.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[36:18] It's wonderful to have a lot of emotions. I think the more vulnerable you are, the better chance you have to communicate and change if need be and respond to people.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[36:30] We do table topics at dinner.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[36:32] That's great. I love that.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[36:34] They have these little cards and they make the kids, all of us really, think about our emotions and kind of express them.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[36:39] Especially in a safe place. You have to do it in a safe way. You're not gonna wanna, your kids aren't gonna want to talk to you about their emotions if you're angry with them. Right.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[36:49] But at dinner, my son was like, I don't really think you're as cool as you used to be, but I still sort of think you're cool.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[36:54] What does that mean, though, cool to him?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[36:58] We're close. I mean, I love my kids so much, but we're close, but it's sort of like, we homeschooled for two years. And during that time, a lot of his friends really cut the umbilical cord with their parents and just got too cool for being with their parents. But he was home with us and didn't get exposed to that. So he's still, now a few years later, he likes being home and he likes being around us. And that's neat. But I work an insane amount, and what he was trying to tell me is like, I still, I wanna be around you, but you're not home. So I come home more. And then I shut down, we had seven offices, I shut down six of them, and I stopped doing as many births.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[37:40] Oh my God.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[37:40] I was still not home that much, but a lot more than I was.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[37:43] That's great. I didn't know you did that. Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[37:46] Whoa. That's why everybody thinks I'm good at what I do, but it's not, because it's hard to get an appointment sometimes, but I'm just like, working less.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[37:54] Good for you. Yeah, that's the way it should be. That's great. I hope you get cooler. Yeah, I know. Through his eyes. Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[38:02] I'll work on it.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[38:03] What does cool mean, just being around?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[38:05] Just like, really, I think he wants to be around me. That's what he means by cool.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[38:12] That is incredible.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[38:12] And he's like, I used to really wanna be around you all the time, now I still wanna be around you, but I can see a time where I just wanna hang out with my friends more.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[38:21] Well, that's healthy.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[38:22] Yeah, it's also good.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[38:22] It's not bad.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[38:23] He wasn't saying anything bad. He's just like, you're kind of running out of time where I'm here and wanna be here a lot, so maybe come hang out with me.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[38:30] Oh my God.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[38:31] So I do, and I love the table topics for that. I wish we started doing them much earlier.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[38:36] What will they be? What kind of stuff?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[38:38] What do you wanna be known for, is a question we had the other day. So you start to think, you know, what are other people known for? We talk about our family friends and what do you know? One of the questions was, would you rather be seen as funny, friendly, or helpful? And we start thinking about people who we know and like, who's your immediate pops into your head when I say friendly? And somebody pops into your head. Do you wanna be more like that? Or who pops into your head when I say helpful? So they start to think about who they are. They're going to camp for the first time. Sleepaway camp.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[39:15] Wow. Is that a week or like eight weeks?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[39:18] It's four weeks. They can do four or eight.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[39:19] They're gonna do four weeks. They're all gonna go?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[39:21] The older two. And so this was a great conversation. I'm like, it's in New York and you can meet people and have any impression you want to for the first time on these people, no matter what your other people think of you. How do you want when somebody meets you for the first time? What do you want their first impression to be?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[39:37] Very mindful. That's such a good question. They're good.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[39:44] With all your kids. How old are they? The older ones?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[39:49] They're seven, nine, 11, and 13 right now. They're just, all their birthdays are right now.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[39:54] Camp, that's exciting. German, we're German. That's a lot.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[39:59] So you were religious growing up, religion in your home?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[40:01] Nothing? I mean, we'd go to church every Sunday, but.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[40:05] Might as well stay home and watch TV.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[40:08] I mean, there was like confirmation class, but.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[40:12] Nothing, but what about their parents? Your grandparents?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[40:16] Same. Nothing. Just, we went to UCC, United Church of Christ, every Sunday. My grandma still goes.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[40:24] Do you, did you ever get to a place where you wanted to explore more?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[40:29] When I was 18 and I came out here, I would go to Gower and Hollywood. To a Presbyterian church with my first boyfriend, because he was super like religious, his family was, and I would go to church with them in Wisconsin, and I really liked the singing and that's why I went. Oh, you're musical. We didn't even get into that. Yeah, it was okay.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[40:50] What about that? When did that start? You write or wrote?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[40:56] No. You sing. I have written, but I don't prefer it. I prefer just singing.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[41:02] Do you play an instrument?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[41:03] I play the piano and guitar. Wow. And I'm like okay at the guitar. I'm pretty good at, I can read music and piano and guitar, but I don't, I haven't really done much of that for the last year. But I, the music, I started the music before the acting.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[41:20] Oh, so like when you were 12?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[41:21] Seven.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[41:22] Oh, young, really young.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[41:23] So your parents started you in lessons when you were little. Yeah. On piano? Piano first. Yeah, seven to 11. And then I started singing like full time.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[41:31] Do you still play at home?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[41:32] Yeah. Both? I have pianos in all of my houses. Really? I mean, that sounds really, really silly. I have pianos in my residences. Yeah. Can't live without it. But then when you get a piano, you don't want to play it.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[41:47] Because.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[41:48] It's there. Right.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[41:50] I mean, you don't want to play it because you don't want to ruin it or you just.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[41:53] No, you just like, you really want a piano and then you get one and then you don't play it. It's really weird.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[41:59] Oh, I play piano, but only one song.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[42:02] Which one?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[42:03] Pachelbel's Canon. Oh yeah, of course. It's a really weird song to be the only one. Usually it's like Mary Had a Little Lamb.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[42:08] No, it's. Or Chopsticks. Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do. No, it's, it's, it's. It's like a wedding song, right? It's pretty easy, but it sounds beautiful and you can, you can improv while you're doing it.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[42:19] I like to, because I play by ear.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[42:21] I play. Same. That's how I started.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[42:24] Oh, by playing by ear.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[42:25] I mean, I learned formally how to read music, but really I just, I heard songs and I would do my version.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[42:33] Just sit down and yeah, do your version. So I can play, that's why I like Pachelbel's Canon. It sort of sounds like I know what I'm doing.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[42:40] Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[42:41] I don't really know what I'm doing. But then people, sometimes when I play, they'll ask, they'll come with requests.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[42:47] I'll be like, I gotta go, I gotta go hang out with my kid. Look at the time, play a version of it.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[42:53] Maybe in a couple of years when I'm not cool. I wanna hear, did you ever record music?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[43:03] You have an album? No, no, no. I recorded it for like musicals, but I did once.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[43:08] Oh, you were in a musical.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[43:10] A couple of them. Oh. Yeah. So we can. About, yeah. Yeah, I did that, but I also recorded a song for a soundtrack that I wrote and they like added strings to it and I was like, wow. All these people composed. They like, I wrote it with the music on guitar. So I just had a few chords and they made it into this huge song and then I had to record it.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[43:40] We are gonna take a quick commercial break. Don't go anywhere. We'll be right back.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[43:58] And then I recorded another thing to go with a movie that I had done, another song that I hadn't written. That was fun. It's really fun. Oh, and then I did record another song that was in a movie, that was in a musical. And that was fun too.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[44:12] Would you ever record an album?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[44:18] You're not that kind of musician.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[44:19] I would and give it to my friends and family. Like my mom loves when I sing, my husband loves when I sing.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[44:26] You don't feel like you're on that level?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[44:28] No, I just, that's not the kind of lifestyle I want. It's not what you wanna do. No, I ask me to get- You wanna go on tour? Yeah, no. That's the worst. Going on tour? Being on stage every night.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[44:41] Can we talk about shyness and not stage acting? Because you said as you grew older, you grew more shy.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[44:48] Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[44:49] And had you thought about doing stage acting?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[44:53] Yeah, I did. And then I would just not do it. I would audition for stage and then just not do it. Either not get it or I would get offered something and I'd find something wrong with it. And I just wouldn't do it because I just, I wanted so badly to experience that because I know it can be life altering. But I didn't have the energy to go through something like that until I did. And I did end up doing a play. That's where I met my husband.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[45:20] Oh, was he in the play as well?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[45:22] It was just the two of us. Really? And when did you end up doing it? 2015.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[45:29] Oh, that was really recent.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[45:31] When did you do it? In New York, off Broadway.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[45:34] Funny or serious?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[45:35] Both.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[45:36] Oh, dramedy.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[45:37] Yeah, really good twist. It was a Neil Abut play. Oh. But it was, I just didn't, up until that point, I didn't have the energy to fight my fears because it's just too much. The fear is just too much.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[45:52] But now that you've done both, do you like one better, screen or stage?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[45:57] I mean, if you're asking me from a fearful, the fearful part of me, I'd say film, so much better, so safe. Right. Take two. Yeah, and you go to your trailer and you like crochet and listen to a book on tape and you go out again. You crochet? I do. I do.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[46:15] Is that why you, mm-hmm?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[46:17] But I'm having a hard time.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[46:19] Yeah, I know, I know.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[46:20] It's ruining my life. I'm sorry. But if I'm talking from a very empowered, the empowered part of me, the mother of me, I'd say stages beyond anything you could imagine. When you ended up doing it, were you, when you were going through, was it when you were going through previews or after it had opened? Did you get to a point where you felt like, all right, I'm good now? Oh, yeah. Oh, my God. When did that happen or when did that shift? It happened halfway through previews, like the second week, and I was like, oh, my God, I know my lines so well. Yeah. We're so connected. I'm so happy. I'm so in love with this feeling. Right. And I just felt so safe.
[47:09] Yeah. And then it kind of fell apart again. I started having panic attacks every six or seven shows. And I was like, oh, that's.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[47:19] What does the panic attack feel like?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[47:21] Oh, it feels like you're gonna die. It feels like you need to leave the stage. It feels like you need to. You would have them during the play. In the middle? And I would act through them and I would just connect with Tommy. And he would always be aware of it. He would recognize that 1,000-yard stare. And then he would bring me back and we would get back. The lines would keep flowing, but my whole body would be cold and I'd be sweating at the same time. And it would only last like 60 seconds and then it would get through.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[47:55] It would pass, really?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[47:56] Oh, yeah, I would pass on stage in front of everybody. Wow. While I'm singing my lines. Do they know?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[48:01] They're oblivious.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[48:02] Just you and Tommy. There's no way they would know. Just Tommy and my mom. If she was watching this, she would know. Would you react? No. No. I mean, meh. Hey, you'll be all right. Just a panic attack. I'm not scolding you. Did you imagine? Yeah. It'll pass. You got it, girl.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[48:16] Another door will open. God, okay, then you did a million movies and broke through and got all these awards like.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[48:24] Didn't get any awards.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[48:25] Well, you got all these, on all these lists. Breakthrough, performance, female.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[48:31] I don't know what that was. You need to go pick up your award.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[48:32] Favorite cast. 50 Most Glamorous Women of 2010. That wasn't even that long ago. But here's my favorite one.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[48:41] A few years ago.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[48:42] Out of all the ones you got, this is the one I relate to the most. You got Glamour Magazine's April 2010. They issued you as the most down to earth.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[48:52] Oh, that's nice.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[48:53] I agree with that.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[48:54] You're very down to earth. What year is that?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[48:56] 2010, when you were still down to earth. But actually, that's a question I have. How do you, cause you went from just being like a girl in Allentown in high school to being recognized by people everywhere. What does that feel like and how is it like when you're in public and people just recognize you?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[49:18] You adapt. It happens slowly. My career is, I was not, I didn't become recognizable overnight. It was a very slow process and it's gone through its ups and downs and I just kind of feel like I'm coasting now. I've experienced different levels of recognition and different levels of privacy and lack of privacy and I think I just was lucky and I was able to adjust as it happened.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[49:48] Cause you're down to earth.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[49:49] Maybe. I also have values.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[49:52] I imagine it's hard to stay grounded when you're, when you wanted, you kind of had a dream and you went for it and you're living it.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[50:00] But also my expectations were always very low. I don't, I think it was a, it was a survival mechanism inside and it's just something that I told me, a voice that told me like, you just got lucky. You just plan for the worst and maybe you'll get, maybe, you know, things will be great but they probably won't be.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[50:24] When you buy a lottery ticket, I probably won't win.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[50:26] Yeah, exactly. I probably won't get this role. I probably.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[50:30] But if I did win, it would change me a lot, I think.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[50:33] Do you think you still think about it that way? Yeah. I mean, I, I don't let things devastate me anymore. Like I found out last week that I'm gonna be, most likely gonna be too old to play Glinda in the Wicked Movie musical and I've been studying for that for years. Yeah, I've been working on that. Too old? Yeah, cause they probably won't make it for a while and someone said that like offhand from the studio and you know, okay, I'm not gonna do it. I'm just not gonna mean it and I'm okay with it. That's why I think I try to keep my expectations low. I don't know if I'm okay with it.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[51:16] I'm having a hard time with it.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[51:17] You can say something to somebody. You can pull some strings. Yeah, Wayne is so cute.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[51:20] I just don't recognize anybody so it's sort of hard to do that.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[51:22] I know, I know.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[51:23] Are you the guy?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[51:24] I'll point the map.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[51:25] You know, I have the opposite problem. I mean, we must have also, there's gotta be a similarity to it. Like if I go out in public, which I don't like to do and I'm at the Grove and somebody will wave to me like, hi, how you doing? And then so I wave back cause I don't want them to feel bad like I don't know who they are but then they look at me funny and I realize they're waving to the person behind me. That happens like every time I go out in public.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[51:50] You know, I was wondering, cause I was thinking like you knew both of us were coming. Amanda has blonde hair and I have brown hair so like when I was walking up, were you thinking, oh, I know it's Kasey cause she has brown hair.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[51:59] I know there's two people coming, two different hair cause it doesn't affect hair. Yeah, but otherwise, like if you took away the hair, it would be really hard for me. Just face, that's how all the face blind tests work.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[52:11] Does it happen every time you look away?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[52:14] If I close my eyes, I cannot picture what you look like at all. Now I just sort of see the, you know what I see actually is now that it's in my head is the tangled princess because she's not human.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[52:28] Yeah, it's blurry. It's like, there's less features, there's less detail.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[52:32] I can picture characters, like cartoon characters. So when I close my eyes from now and you're gonna be Rapunzel.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[52:38] That's okay. That's a good one.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[52:40] Yeah, I'm not sure who you are yet. I'll find a character for you.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[52:46] Thanks.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[52:48] All right, what was your favorite acting job?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[52:53] The play. Really?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[52:55] I mean, it obviously changed your entire life.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[52:57] It changed my entire life. I didn't even know it was happening when it was happening, but it was incredible. It just made me feel like I could do anything. Someone with anxiety, being able to overcome that kind of, that level of fear and succeeding. It's a really big deal. It does a lot, yeah. It's like the way you would feel if you went skydiving and lived. Yeah, that's quite an accomplishment. Yeah, I mean, for some people, for him, it's like nothing. It's no big deal. Getting on stage, that's where he was born. But for me, it's like, I can't possibly survive this. I will fall apart and my reputation will get ruined because people won't be able to trust
[53:41] that I'm sane enough to carry out a project. Why did you decide to do it finally? Was it just that you felt like you had to overcome it? Yeah, I felt like I had to do it and the right project came and I was like, I don't think I can turn this down. It's opportunity anyway.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[54:01] You finally got to act with, wait, maybe he produced it. Red Riding Hood was produced by-
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[54:08] Oh, Leo, he produced it. Yeah, he wasn't there.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[54:12] Oh, he wasn't there?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[54:13] It was a CGI wolf.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[54:16] No question there then. But I do have one other question for you. You like taxidermy.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[54:23] Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[54:24] Is that true?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[54:25] I have a lot of taxidermy. You do? Yeah, I mean, I would say I have a fair amount of taxidermy. How does that work?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[54:31] First of all, how'd you get into it?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[54:34] I love animals and-
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[54:38] That sounds backwards.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[54:40] Yeah, I love it, I know. I know and the truth is you don't, you can't possibly know why they were killed.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[54:47] I don't wanna cut you off at all, but have you seen Ellen DeGeneres talk about taxidermy?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[54:52] No. No.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[54:53] I gotta get that clip for you.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[54:54] Why?
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[54:55] Because she, it's not, I don't have it in my head right now, but she said basically that's what people who like taxidermy say, I love animals. And she's like, well, I love grandma.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[55:05] I know, exactly, it's so true. But I don't really wanna hang her
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[55:08] on my bedroom wall. Really good point.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[55:10] I know, I would never taxidermy my own animal. Right. I did think about having my goat stuffed because she died and her body was still intact and she was so wonderful and young and-
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[55:26] Where did you have a goat? In Pennsylvania?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[55:28] I have a farm upstate in New York. Oh. But it was really, I just, I think it's an amazing art as well. I'm probably finished collecting. You're maxed out. Yeah, I think it's also, it's really expensive. Oh, really? I got it from Paris, which is where I- You got it from Paris? Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[55:49] How do you even find your next thing?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[55:52] Every time I go to Paris, I go to Paris twice a year. So I go to D'Aurel and I look at what they have.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[55:57] And how do you get it back? Like in your suitcase? Shipped.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[56:00] Oh, they ship it because it's that- It's really expensive to ship them.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[56:03] It's as much as- Is it in your house?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[56:05] They're all over my house. Are they here and in New York? I'm kind of curious to see them. They're here, they're in LA. I wanna see them. They're awesome. Some of them are like, I have a baby zebra and a baby horse. But the truth is, there's responsible taxidermy and there's when you don't know why they're, if they're being killed for the sake of taxidermy, fuck that. I'm not gonna support that.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[56:30] That's French right there.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[56:31] Oh, crap.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[56:32] No, no, it's okay.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[56:33] I speak French. Okay, good. We can say swear words, can't we? Yeah, totally. I hope so. I have been for months. Please not. Not realizing it.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[56:43] You know, iTunes has a little section, you just click it if there's any of those words in there so that they don't play it for kids.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[56:48] Oh. Yeah.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[56:50] As long as we don't forget that. iTunes likes us.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[56:52] Great.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[56:54] What was your first one?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[56:56] A horse, a miniature horse. Baby miniature horse, so.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[57:00] You were just in Paris and you saw-
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[57:01] I was in Paris and I was with my friend Antoine and I bought the horse and named him Antoine.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[57:10] I mean, what are they stuck on?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[57:11] Some of them are wood. I don't know.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[57:14] What do you mean wood?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[57:15] Some of them are actually just sculpted wood.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[57:18] There's no animal?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[57:20] No, it's just the skin. Oh. It's just the outside. Like instead of stuffing.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[57:24] They put it over wood?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[57:25] No, they actually sculpt in the body. They sculpt the body and they put the hair back, the fur back on it, the skin.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[57:33] Oh, I got it. They make a sculpture out of wood and then they put back on the fur.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[57:37] Oh, wow. And then what is responsible taxidermy? Well, you don't kill the animals in order to stuff it. Right. There has to be- So how do they find their animals? Well, a lot of young animals like day old, two day old, three day old, like horses and stuff, die from heart problems.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[57:55] They just die naturally.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[57:56] Yeah. And then they sell them to taxidermy.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[57:58] Then you're preserving the beauty of the animal.
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[58:00] That's what I would like to think. That's what you're doing. Because I really think that when it's well done, it's amazing. Then there's taxidermy like raccoons and stuff that are really cheap that you can buy around here because they can find a dead raccoon in here.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[58:15] Yeah, I can only afford a taxidermy mouse, but-
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[58:20] I have that too. That would be kind of awesome. You have a taxidermy mouse? Mm-hmm.
Dr. Elliot Berlin, DC[58:23] From Paris?
Amanda Seyfried with co-host Kacy Byxbee[58:25] No, that was from here. It was a gift that somebody gave me. Do you have a favorite? Kevin. Who's he? He's a fox and he was a little cheaper because they did his neck wrong. So his neck is a little longer and his eyes are a little bit funky, like the eyes that they put in. His little cross-eyed? The little cross-eyed.
